The Alkek Velodrome Youth Cycling League is dedicated to teaching 10-16 year old kids how to ride the track.
We provide rental bikes and an experienced coach to teach the kids about riding, racing, tactics and having a safe, fun time. After graduating the class, your child will be able to race on all of our normal race nights.
The classes are totally free and it's great way to stay active during the summer
Classes will meet at the Alkek Velodrome on Monday through Friday mornings from 8:30 am to 11:30 am.
Welcome to Project Racer, bicycle coaching and cycling training support services website. My name is Carl Jones, B.S. in Kinesiology, University of Houston, and a USA Cycling Expert Coach. It will be my pleasure to help you in your cycling pursuits. I specialize in master, youth/junior age groups, as well as women's bicycle training.
I've been the supervisor at the Alkek Velodrome for the last 3 years and the Junior Team coach for the Northwest Cycling Club/Alkek Velodrome Cycling Team for the same period of time. At present, I am physical education teacher in the Stafford School District. In my tenure at the facility, my athletes have gone from 3 medals in 2003, to 12 medals in 2004, to 14 medals and a national champion in 2005 and 2006. I've had numerous athletes go on to state medals in many events, 4 athletes with national championships, and have many recreational riders work to their first racing experiences. !
Don't let the name fool you, this project is not all about racing, we train just train like racers; we train smarter! The idea is to use the proven techniques and apply those toyour riding preferences. If you don't ever plan on racing, that's ok. But, you will start riding like a racer. Stay tuned!!!!!
Yup! I'm trying a little BMX. FMF Pro XL 20 incher and I'm balancing at the gate. No airtime though. It's a little scary. My son has earned 4 trophies.
